For those unfamiliar with StockTwits, it is essentially Twitter for the stock markets. Users specifically tweet about markets trends, investment strategies and real-time company specific events. Much like Twitter tracks trending topics, StockTwits uses “cashtags” (ex: $NFLX) to track the most discussed stocks and ETFs of the day.
The most discussed tickers are usually given that designation because they are involved in breaking news, have seen significant changes in stock price, or generating a lot of speculation.
So, which names are generating the most buzz today, Wednesday August 8th? We checked in at noon to see what caught people’s attention.
The Buzz
Priceline.com (PCLN) and Sodastream (SODA) are both leftovers from yesterday. It’s also nice to see some positivity from Research in Motion (RIMM) which just released a keyboard compatible with the iPad, their first, and probably only, new product of the year. Some seem to think there are some new entry points opening up for ExxonMobil (XOM) and Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (SPPI).
Check out below what other companies have caught investors’ attention.
As always, the second daily installment will come at the close. Happy Trading.
1. priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN, Earnings, Analysts, Financials): Operates as an online travel company. Market cap at $33.85B, most recent closing price at $578.40. Top trender left over from yesterday, earnings did not meet expectations and the price has been dropping since, down 16%. Stkcon tweets, “Some asking about whether to buy $PCLN. I wouldn’t, as stocks that disappoint earnings-wise seem to bang around for a while. $$.”
2. SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA, Earnings, Analysts, Financials): Engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of home beverage carbonation systems and related products. Market cap at $830.78M, most recent closing price at $43.89. Another recent trender, up around 0.5%. Jim Cramer had something to do with this one. Buyhighsellhigh tweets, “$SODA People are really letting Crammer influence what they do? I heard that Cramer”s track record has been 40%.”
3. Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPPI, Earnings, Analysts, Financials): Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a commercial-stage biotechnology company, primarily focuses on oncology and hematology. 4. Research In Motion Limited (RIMM, Earnings, Analysts, Financials): Designs, manufactures, and markets wireless solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market. Market cap at $3.83B, most recent closing price at $7.42. Could it be? BlackBerry maker RIM up 5.75%! Take that shorts.
