Looking for low-priced stocks with bullish backing from knowledgeable investors? We ran a screen with that in mind analyzing small cap companies or larger ($300 mil+).
We first screened for net institutional buying in the current quarter. Institutional buying represents a fund that manages over $100 million, usually a bank, hedge fund, or mutual fund. These firms are known as ‘Smart Money’ and investors see their backing as a bullish sign, believing that smart money wouldn’t invest if they expected the price to go down.
The second screen was for short significant covering month-over month, a bullish sign from short sellers. Short sellers benefit when a stock price falls, so by reversing, or covering, their position they are taking a less pessimistic outlook on its future. Shorting a stock or shares of a stock is a strategy typically used by advanced investors.
