When making an investment decision, it’s easy to start doubting your ability to make choices. You could be using inaccurate information, a poorly constructed valuation model, or a number of different error-filled factors. How can you be a little more sure of your investment then?

It might be helpful to have the backup of a large investment bank’s analysts. Their full-time job is to analyze companies, so their word is as professional as it gets. They often have personal relationships with the companies they are assigned to, and visit the company to get more accurate figures out their value.

With this in mind we screened for stocks with “Overweight” ratings from Barclays, a major global financial services provider. This rating means that the investment bank believes the stock is a good buy at the moment.

But contrarian investors, take note. Institutional traders, such as hedge funds, are net selling these stocks at significant levels. Many investors watch institutional trades very closely because they tend to house some of the smartest and most experienced traders (hence “smart money”) with access to in depth company analysis. So it’s considered quite bearish when they are collectively net selling a stock.
