Anyone who is as squeamish about insects as this author may understand the hesitation towards Qualcomm's new ad campaign featuring a bug circus capable of producing enough amps to power their newly released cell phone. But then you watch it and think, in a way, bugs are kind of awesome, and wow, that phone definitely seems energy efficient.
It's that kind of thinking that is propelling Qualcomm's (QCOM) flea-circus video to internet stardom as the newest viral campaign ad.
Adweek.com had this gem to add about video creator Denizen Company and the work that went into creating this entomological masterpiece:
Denizen took the whimsical job seriously, bringing in an electrical engineering consultant to accurately calculate the real-world amps the insects would generate, and what would be required to actually power the phone. The result, says the agency, is a functional bug-circus generator that is scientifically sound—emphasizing the super-high energy efficiency of Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile processor technology.
The video features (among other things) a praying mantis expertly riding a bicycle, a beetle shot out of a cannon through a ring of fire, and a tarantula on a treadmill. Watch it for yourself:
