It can be difficult to decide whether or not to trade a stock, especially if you have no conviction on the company’s future. Sometimes, there are a handful of stocks that all have similar valuations and statistics, and you want to pick one or two from the bunch. It could be helpful to have a suggestion from a professional in the industry, right?

If you’re unsure, it might help to look to institutions for advice. Most investment banks have large teams of analysts that are each assigned to a specific sector or company, so they theoretically know everything there is to know about it. They sometimes give ratings on the companies they follow, and if they give a “buy” rating, their word is as professional as it gets.

Furthermore, Many investors watch institutional purchases very closely because they tend to house some of the smartest and most experienced traders (hence “smart money”) with access to in depth company analysis. So it’s considered a strong vote of confidence when they are collectively net purchasing a stock.
